The course focuses on long-term financing, capital investment, and corporate finance as applied to healthcare organizations’ strategic decision-making across the sector. The course emphasizes risk as an integral part of strategic financial planning. 

Health Policy: An Immersive Experience

Major health policy issues and the role of government in the healthcare system.

This course examines major health policy issues and the role of government in the healthcare system. An essential focus of the course is policy analysis in forming and implementing national and local health policy. The course will also focus on the interactions between federal, state, and local policy domains. The course examines how managers and organizations can adapt operating practices to respond to (and even leverage) policy change.

Health Law and Regulation

Overview of legal and ethical issues that healthcare professionals encounter in the United States healthcare system.

This course explores the legal and ethical issues that healthcare professionals encounter in the United States healthcare system. Students will gain the ability to analyze legal and ethical issues in healthcare by engaging in interactive discussions and informative research. This course explores how healthcare regulation may help or hinder three major health policy goals: increasing access, reducing cost, and improving quality.

Equity and Ethics in Healthcare Law and Strategy II

Current and future equity and ethical issues in health law and strategy.

The second part of the integrated seminar on Equity and Ethics focuses on three components whereby students will be able to: 1) recognize the interplay between the political and social determinants of health as they tie to health equity and health disparity; 2) identify the critical contemporary healthcare initiatives’ processes, challenges, risks, and barriers of critical contemporary healthcare initiatives to address health equity; and 3) analyze key healthcare issues from an organizational perspective to understand how decisions are made and how priorities are set.
