It has been two years since the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Office for the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology (ONC) Final Rules on Interoperability and Information Blocking took effect. During that time, the United States has made tremendous progress on efforts to promote and increase patients’ access to their health information, as well as to share health information more broadly and easily across all health care sectors. Critical implementation challenges persist, however, with COVID-19 highlighting multiple gaps in the health data ecosystem.
A new Manatt Health webinar—featuring Aneesh Chopra, America’s first Chief Technology Officer—provides key insights into the ways that federal and state governments and health care leaders are navigating a complex and fragmented health data landscape. Key topics include:
- Best practices for tackling key challenges, including the fractured state health information exchange (HIE) system, the insufficiencies in system capabilities and the lack of incentives for electronic health record (EHR) adoption and data exchange
- An overview of the new federal rules and legislation on the horizon
- An in-depth review of state-specific exchange mandates and emerging federal initiatives and how they are remapping the data-exchange landscape
- A look forward at what lies ahead
