In a new webinar, Manatt Health, the American Medical Association (AMA) and a panel of stakeholders will share key lessons for states seeking to innovate and expand access to evidence-based care for pregnant people with a substance use disorder (SUD) who are incarcerated or under judicial supervision. Providing access to evidence-based medical care, including medications to treat opioid use disorder (MOUD), to justice-involved populations is required under federal law but presents challenges from intake screening to prerelease planning. Only about half of prison systems across the country provide MOUD, and only around half of those provide MOUD for pregnant people.
Key topics that will be covered include:
- The parameters of California’s newly approved reentry services waiver amendment
- Implications of SUD treatment within the criminal justice system, including during incarceration and after release
- Partnerships with health care services in the community
- Impact of the new waiver on treatment for pregnant individuals with SUD
